Lamb of God's As The Palaces Burn and Ashes Of The Wake are two albums that are really aimed at political problems in the U.S.( I would only suggest listening to this if you enjoy "HEAVY" music. Pretty hardcore.) I think "Imagine" by John Lennon is also a good choice for world problems.

U2 is probably like the band you're looking for. "Windows in the Sky" and the one they did with Green Day are related to poverty. Plus, if you've seen Nickelback's "If Everyone Cared" video, that was pretty inspirational.
