People are going to do it no matter what and because of that babies will come into the world. If they're pro-life why can't they increase welfare programs or at least teach young people about birth control?

the welfare system bas been bastardized beyond recognition. what was once a hand up has now become a hand out. what was once people getting money while working for the state/feds (railroads anyone) is now a free for all. i like the way michigan used to have it -- you come onto the program with 2 kids -- you get birth control and guess what - you have a third kid - you're on your own -your welfare does not increase! too many people abuse the system. ever go into a welfare office -- i see more fake nails, hair and designer clothing.... it's sad that there are those that abuse a system that's meant to help those in real need!

So am I to think that if we don't want abortions we should increase welfare checks.
Our tax money pays for many programs that promote safe sex.
Republican aren't against welfare, but lets face it there are a lot of people on it that do not need to be.
I didn't realize that Republicans were the only ones to teach abstinence.
I don't see what abstinence and welfare have to do with one another.
Democrats would like nothing better than increase welfare anything to do to keep the poor for their platform.
Why should hard working people (Republicans or Democrats) pay for abortions and more government programs.

Because they have NO care for any human beyond themselves. Work hard and be responsible they say. Great idea until the Job you work at leaves the country and there are no more to be found. Or until they get hurt at work and can no longer perform the job you were trained to do, or until you are born with some birth defect that does not allow you to work, or some other curve ball gets thrown at you (of course that is your own damn fault for being borm that way.)
For example my grandmother spent her life doing what republicans think women should do. she stayed home and took care of the houshold - she was a house wife. She loved it and all was well until my grandpa got sick and died. So in her sixties she took in whatever work she could she worked in the laundry at the hospital and cleaned houses and anything else she could get hired to do at her age. That plus what Social security her husband left (she had none as she never worked) plus what the church helped with was not quite enough and so she got food stamps and small amounts of other 'welfare' She did not live high on the hog in fact she spent a good deal of time without electricity, had no phone never had a car etc. Her children helped as much as possible but were also of limited means. She died penniless and my father paid for her funeral expenses.
According to Republicans she was nothing more than a welfare queen, this is just mean to deny people like her who really need it some help.
the problem is the repuclicans who preach self suffiency never really struggled.
As for abstinence only education, great idea. But, those of us who remember our teens and earliy twenties realize just how unrealistic it is. abstinence should be taught as part of the overall picture which includes birth control methods and information on STD's That way when hormones start raging and abstinence is the last thng on their minds, they will know how to protect themselves from an undesired pregnancy or disease.

Welfare is very taxing on a society. Republicans believe that the more productive people there are in a society, the more prosperous the society is. Leftists/Democrats want more people dependent on the State and want to eliminate the Middle Class through excessive taxation, so they want a lot of people to vote for handouts.
Abstinence is the 100% effective method of birth control. Also, consider that if every human could live by Conservative ideals and only have one mate in their lifetime... all sexually transmitted diseases could be eliminated in one generation. All of them.
Conservative values are something to aspire to. They are the foundation for a strong, productive society. Some folks lack the discipline or motivation to be productive, self-sufficient Citizens but that does not make them the model by which we should judge everyone else. Let us instead look at the most successful and use that as our model. That is the true path toward Progress.

Because every single time some broke down couple decides to have a baby and they cant support it taxes go up. That means the working people have to pay for the mistakes of the non-working people.
There are many birth control workshops out there for people, but they ignore them. The problem isnt really that the working ppl dont want to help the non working, its just that people begin to take advantage, become lazy, then they get all "entitiled" thinking that this country owes them food stamps and rent assistance when they could easily get a job llike the rest of us.
Plus- the same welfare hogs you see sucking up all of my good tax dollars, are the same people that finacial aid will pay tuition for. Honestly, I think this country is too nice and if it were up to me... i'd cut welfare all together.

I work hard and long hours to EARN my income. Being an American means that I must pay taxes for such things as roads, police, firefighters, military, schools, and help the elderly and handicapped people.
But why should I owrk each and every day and pay more taxes just because some low life is too lazy to support themselves by getting a job for themeselves? Or why should I pay more taxes to some young girl to download a new kid every couple of years because she can't keep her legs closed and doesn't know who the "daddy" is?
Repubs believe in taking resposibility for your own future and actions! You have a kid? You better be able to support it WITHOUT taxpayers assistance! I rasied 3 kids, put them thru college, and they all 3 are out in the world as productive Americans....and I never once got any welfare! I worked 2 jobs most of my adult life, sometimes 3 to pay for the house, the cars, the food, and their education....so now why should I pay, thru taxes, to support someone else's kids?

the most NAIVE view in all of poltics is that teens won't have sex if you just "tell them not too"...
a perfect world of communism where everything is in perfect symetry will exist billions of years before teens ever think about abstinence as an alternative... I mean... do conservatives go to high school?
and then on top of that.. they think that the poor will be self sustaining just at random and no one should ever pitty them... or help them...
the real hoot of both of these issues is that they say they promote abstinance because of their religion, "because sex before marriage is wrong" (if they didn't believe this, they would just hand out condoms, clearly)... but then ignore all of Jesus' teachings about helping the poor and giving back to them...
conservatives love to take one sentence out of the Bible and make a platform out of it while ignoring huge chapters of text that were said by the Son of God himself?
I don't get how they can be so morally idealistic... and then get all pissy when liberals are "idealistic" on economic issues?

Well, I guess with the attitude you have, we shouldn't have prisons either, because people are going to commit crimes right?
If they're pro-life they might encourage people who lack the maturity and means to have children to adopt them out.
And don't say that pro-life people don't adopt, or that abortion is safe. My acquaintance adopted a baby that was a result of a botched abortion (and the baby is not white either so there goes the racist card!).
Generalizing is one of the things that get people in trouble, like Sen. Biden who blew it big time today...
Who said someone doesn't teach young people about birth control, but it's not 100% effective, contrary to what you might believe.

That's a cop out. Illegitimacy is many times higher now than when I was young. There is such a thing as morality. There is a difference between right & wrong.
With sex ed in the schools, condum ads on TV & abortion on demand at any age, illigitimacy is still a major social problem. What is lacking is a strong moral foundation.
