This is racist, insulting and patronizing. Black history is a bigger part of general American history than most people think. It needs to be integrated in with the rest of American history, since black history IS American history. And it what also annoys me when people teach black history is they miss lots of important things- for instance instead of recognizing brilliant black achievments and inventions, they only mention minor things, like the hairbrush. WTF? Also, people should educate and teach black children to be more respectful of their ancestors, and restore strong moral/family values and work ethic that the vast majority of the black community used to have. And teach that rap is a minstrel show, because it is.

Continue to be proud of your heritage young lady. Black History was done best the way Alex Haley described it in his books "ROOTS". It's the family passing down the stories from one generation to the next. But not all are like this and neither is mine.
Ultimaltely Blacks themselves are the ones to carry the achievers stories not just one month, but from month to month and year to year. Blacks can't depend on other races to do what they can do for themselves.
And as far as racism goes I like Martin Luther King Jr's vision of the future for America in his "I Have A Dream" speech. This inspiring words were delivered on the steps of the LIncold Memorial on August 28, 1963. I was a boy of 10 years old and heard and watched that speech on television in black and white. Here are some of his famous words about race. I was awestruck.
"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
I have a dream that one day, down in Alabama, with its vicious racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of interposition and nullification; one day right there in Alabama, little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers."
"And if America is to be a great nation this must become true. So let freedom ring..."
" And when this happens, When we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old ***** spiritual, "Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"

i think that haveing a "black history month" is one of the most BS things in america i mean come on yeah what happened MANY MANY MANY years ago was bad and i am so sick of people always using what happened to thier ancestors in the past to argue a point in the present it's the past it was wrong but it's done and over with get over it and stop whining and yeah their is alot of black history that should be included into history books but i mean come on is their a irish american month, is their a white history month i mean if anyone even considered having a white history month their would be a HUGE fallout and it would be national news... and what the hell is this naacp crap i mean their aren't any of those for white people at least not that i know of excluding the KKK cuz they don't count for anything and these all black colleges what about an all mexican college or an all white college i mean it's ok to have an all black college but if someone opened an all white college then everyone would SCREAM RACISM i think all these people that think they deserve such special treatment cuz of their ancestors need to shut the hell up and accept the fact that they are the same as any other american whether they be cacausin, mexican american, irish american, african american, etc. we are all equal in this country. so there is my two cents. and i am not racist in any way shape or form to anyone that wants to complain and whine that i am racist.

I think a month is fine, the whites or other races don't have a month set aside for them. Black history month is all about what famous black people have done. Everyone needs to know that. When I was homeschooling my daughter we watched all the programs on the history channel and rented books and movies from the library on different people. There is so much to learn about. Everyday there was a new person to talk about or a new movie to watch. We both learned about the hardships, pain and suffering. Speaking about suffering, the American Indians have done a lot of suffering too, they need a month for these people too.

You are right. It is racists. Not because it is relegated to only a month rather than a larger timeperiod.
It is racists because it exists at all!!!
Why isn't there a White history month?
History is History period!
Dont try to lay claim to a part of it by putting racists labels on it.

I am hispanic and feel the same way about Hispanic Heritage Month. I think that we should be patient and give it time. American history is american history including everyone in it.

Well, if we had a "white history month" Y'all would lose your minds. I don't understand why, in this century, we still must segregate ourselves. Ive said it before..there is only one race in this world..the human race.
