How would you differentiate "proper office attire", semi-formal, and "smart-casual"?

"proper office attire" - depends on the office, can range from suits only to sport coat/tie to dress slacks and polo shirt

semi-formal - dark suit, conservative tie

"smart-casual" - preppy or something you would wear to a country club

proper office would be a nice plain suit, semi formal would also be a suit, but one that looks less business like and lastley smart casual is like dress pants and a dress shirt.
