My daughter is almost a year and we took her to the E.R. last night because she had been projectile vommitting for a few hours. The doctor said to make sure that she was getting enough fluids but was not concerned because she was not running a fever and was still acting "normal". Well, I told him that we had been giving her tylenol for the last couple of days because she was cutting all four of her molars, and was in pain. But you know E.R. Doctors, always in the rush. So today she is still not feeling well, is now running a fever of 102.5 and is wanting to sleep all day, still cant keep anything down---not water, not tylenol, not formula....and just seems to have given up. What should I do? Take her to another E.R? She has a doctor's appt with her pediatrician tomorrow morning at 9 but I really can't stand to see her in anymore pain. Thanks for the help.

Call the pediatrician's office. Somebody should be on call. Tell them what is going on & they'll tell you what you should do.

The problem with all these suggestions to give gatorade, powerade, pedialyte etc... is that you have said she will not keep ANYTHING down. This means she is getting dehydrated from all of the vomiting and not being able to replenish her liquids. In addition to the fever, or the fact that fever can be caused BY dehydration I would either call your on-call pediatrician or take her back to the ER immediately. She has become lethargic and is not acting normally, seems to have given up and is not getting enough fluids. This is a bad combination and needs to be checked out now that circumstances have changes since yesterday.

If you do go back to the ER try to ask for a different doctor or demand better treatment if you get the same one, your child is more important than pissing off someone you don't know. :)

Have you tried pedialyte popsicles? Kids love those. I think most of us moms have been there at some point or another. If you feel your child is lethargic and not very responsive, you belong in the ER. A fever of 102.5 high to adults, but kids can run much higher fevers and be fine. You know your child best and if you think that her condition is serious enough to go back to the ER, then do. Is she wetting enough diapers? If she is not putting out urine, she could be dehydrated.

If she is still throwing up water will make it worse. Try giving her sprite, gatorade, or poweraide. If you are not already, try rotating tylenol with Motrin every three hours. The motrin seems to reduce fevers better in smaller children. I would just keep a close eye on her through-out the night and remember if her temp. gets to high put her in a luke-warm bath to help bring it down. If you get to worried, call the local E.R. and ask to speak with the Dr. on call and he/she could advise you better. Good Luck.

There are suppositories that have pain relievers in them. Ask the pharmacist to help you pick one out. Those really work for your situation. Be sure to give her lots of pedialyte and 7 Up. Do Not give her formula! That is the worst thing to give a throwing up baby. Oh yea, Popsicles are good too. Let her sleep, but watch her. Take her temp. every hour. There are also patches at the drug store called Be Kool. They help bring fevers down without meds. They are just like a jelly sticker and you can put it on her forehead. If she doesn't like that, you can put it on her back where she can't take it off.

If ur daughter is fine, she is'nt showing any signs of being ill or not feeling well then u should not b worried. i never heard anyone catching the infection just by the bad smell. And who ever told u, that u should cover the baby from head to toe just for protecting her from germs/infections, is absolutely wrong. You should dress ur baby according to the weather and that's it. I cant imagine covering my baby all over in 40 degrees heat.

I would go back again ... now. and make sure you see a different doctor!!!

Or you can call the doctors office .... you should at least be able to talk to the on call doctor.

I hope your baby feels better really soon. And there is a nasty flu bug going around now. Best of luck.

if it were me , i would take her back. She shouldnt want to sleep all the time. And fevers are dangerous, if it gets to high she could have a febrile seizure, like my daughter did. In my opinion you can never be to safe when it comes to little ones. Take her back dont wait until her appt. tomorrow

When my little one was projectile vomitting and we took him in they said the most important thing was to keep him hydrated. So they told me to give him pedialyte and nothing else. They said No formula and no food until he stops throwing up. You cant let her get dehydrated.

When a baby becomes lethargic, its time to call your hospital and ask to speak to the on-call pediatrician. All those other symptoms are ok, but my doc said to call her immediately if my daughter ever became really lethargic. When in doubt, call, or even go in.
