The problem may be obvious enough, but I just wanted to put it out there in case a more experienced "car person" would know.

I hear (& actually kinda *feel*) a dry grinding sound whenever I hit the brakes. Even at slower speeds.

Brake problem, right?

If so, how much would a typical brake fix go for?

Sounds like you wore your front brake pads out & the noise you hear/feel is metal on metal so you're rotors are probably ruined. You will probably need to have both front rotors & brake pads replaced. Depending on where you live the cost should be anywhere from $130.00- $225.00 . You should also have your rear brakes checked &/or adjusted to help take some of the load off of your front brakes

the noise is the backing of the brake pads eating the rotors if the noise is coming form the front . If you had it fixed went they were squealing it would have cost you up to 300 bucks . But since you let it go this far and will need new rotors it could go as high as 1500 depending or the car or truck your driving

it may be your brakes from description .your brake pads is worn out and now the metal backing is doing the job for the lining. some foreign cars have electrinic wear sensor some carry a mechanical sensor making a squeaking sound when the pads are about to finished . now you are looking at a few dollars from forty onward depending on make and model quality of parts

your brakes has gone long time ago.

they are rubbing metal to metal, no pads at all.
price will be according with the damage done by the driver.

calipers
rotors
pads
plus labor

P.S. You have valid reason to be scary.
if the caliper's piston pop out
You will have not brakes at all.

the guarantee could cover this. Pads and rotors could final lots longer than 7000 miles. that is not any longer accepted for pads or rotors to placed on out this quickly. The calipers, as you notice, are no longer designed to placed on out this quickly the two. i might harass the region the place i offered the vehicle and that i might evaluate hiring a legal expert.
