Midol.

Sometimes sugar helps, chocolate, or for me - curling up in a ball.
Oh and putting heat on. Like those pink rubber medicine baggies.

There are a lot of medicines out there for cramps. Tylenol works for me but I know others that swear ibuprofen is better. Applying heat is great and very comforting. If the cramps are this severe, you may want to consider going on birth control pills. The hormones in the pill will even out your own hormones, lessen the cramps and you have the advantage of knowing when your next period is due. You don't have to be sexually active to enjoy some of the benefits of being on the pill!

Most of the time doctors will suggest ibuprofin (motrin) for cramp relief.

But there are many conditions that can cause extreme cramping that may not be relieved by over-the-counter pain medications or even by pain medication at all.

If you've tried pain relievers and nothing works, you should go in for an exam and get advice from your physician based upon your exam results.

I say this from experience having had experienced extreme cramping without relief using pain relievers.

In my case, my doctor and I opted for hysterectomy as total solution to the problem.

It was the most drastic solution in my case .... but of course may not be something that has to be done in your case.

Naproxen. Get it via prescription. Prevents prostaglandins from circulating in your system thereby preventing pain associated with uteral contractions.
