Bill introduced to ban incandescent bulbs
East Bay Business Times - 4:57 PM PST Tuesday

Assemblyman Lloyd Levine believes he has a bright idea: to ban the sale of incandescent light bulbs by 2012.
Levine, a Democrat from Van Nuys, introduced the bill Tuesday, claiming the ban of incandescent bulbs in favor of energy-efficient fluorescent bulbs would "cut greenhouse gas emissions and save consumers money."
Replacing a 75-watt incandescent light bulb with a 20-watt compact fluorescent bulb would offer the same amount of light but save 1,300 pounds of carbon dioxide and consumers about $55 over the life of the bulb (based on 750 hours of life for the incandescent bulb compared to the 10,000 hours for a fluorescent bulb), according to the Rocky Mountain Institute. The California Energy Commission estimates that eliminating incandescent bulbs will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.82 million metric tons per year.
"Incandescent light bulbs were first developed almost 125 years ago, and since that time they have undergone no major modifications," Levine said. "Meanwhile, they remain incredibly inefficient, converting only about 5 percent of energy they receive into light."
Wal-Mart has a goal of selling 100 million compact fluorescent light bulbs this year. Philips has announced plans to stop making incandescent bulbs by 2016.

I agree, they want to protect the freedom and liberty of criminals and potential criminals (and not protect honest people), yet they want to take away the freedom and liberty of honest people (under the guise of parental protection). Great question!

Oh great! A law outlawing incandescent light bulbs!

Personally I replaced all my old incandescents ages ago with the compact fluorescent but I didn't need a law to force me to do it.

You forgot the part about an incandescent bulb costing about 75 cents, versus $8 for the same type of compact fluourescent bulb.

I guess we're going to be taxed to subsidize poor people who can't affort the CF bulbs. Just wait.

And as to the light bulb thing, come on people get with the program! The earth is dying! the government has to find a way to cut back on energy consumption.

and as to smoking, spanking and trans fat...

man none of those things are good for anyone. god I can't believe people are still living in the stone age and spanking their kids.

god forbid someone do something to stop global warming...
what do you care what lightbulb you use?
incandescent bulbs are the same price, they'll lower your energy bill, and whether you believe in it or not, can help end global warming...

Issue hungry neocons will take whatever is happening in one state, city, town, or village and try to pass it off as being a nationwide event. And the lemmings lap it up and believe every word of it and even add ridiculous statements of their own. LMAO.

Seeing what's happened to the environment and efforts to ween ourselves off foreign oil after putting the energy companies in charge, maybe it's a good thing. Are you telling me Exxon-Mobil has the people's best interests at heart?
