I don't see a problem with it. It will help the child with her reading and speaking skills, and with her social skills..

I think it's a very good idea to teach a child how to speakup for what they want at an early age. I allowed all my children (4) to order from the menu. I just told them the price range and limitations on sweets and eating healthy. They usually ordered very good food that was appropriate for their age and growth. I only had to ask them a few times to change their order a bit. They were happy with their ability to decide what they wanted, and happy kids make reasonably quiet ones while waiting in a restraunt! Also while waiting ,,,I used to play drawing games on the paper placemats with them. That kept them happy too.

As long as the ten year old has checked with her mom as to what she he is ordering that is fine... As a waitress i always look at the mother when the child is finished ordering as a signal she can have whatever it is that was ordered,,, I wouldnt want a child ordering lobster and then the mother saying..YOU CANT HAVE THAT!! when the bill arrives..

I ordered my own food at age 5! It would definitly be ok for a 10 year old to order her own food. I would be suprised if she wouldn't. As long as she doesn't order something expensive why wouldn't you want her to order her own food.

Yes, it's pefectly fine. Make sure she knows what she wants. She will most likely get it of a children's menu, but just make sure she doesn't order anything expensive. Tell her if she ever goes out with friends and they won't except money, nothing over $4! She should be capable of ordering herself. CAUTION:No 'subsitute drink for a milkshake' until AFTER dinner. I've learned!

Absolutely! My parents stopped having to order for me when I was 6 or 7. They said I had to learn to talk to the server and speak up and order for myself. At 10 they definitely should be able to order for themselves.

I don't quite understand why this wouldn't be okay. I let my son order his own food and he's 6. He's been ordering his own since he was about 3 and got out of his shy phase. I think its good for them. They feel like big kids then and it helps them understand that you don't have to do everything for them.

Of course, you have to show some waitors or waitresses to stop ignoring you because they tend to do that alot because they could care less if you're happy they just want your parents happy. Order your own food and let them know you know what you want and your parents dont have to ALWAYS order for you.

As long as she knows what she wants, it's served in the restaurant, and can speak loud enough for the waiter/waitress to hear.

Of course. As long as she knows what the money limits are and she eats everything she orders.

Absolutely !! Its a good age to let him feel more grown up by doing his own ordering with you right there to guide him if he looks puzzled.
