Hey, i am currently 39 weeks pregnant... 3.5 cms dialated and the baby is completely droped (acording to what my doctor told me on tuse) i have been haveing contractions about 1 MAYBE 2 every 40 to 45 mins... my doctor said that they are not close enough together and that i should try some walking.... well my husband is at work and works a good portion of the day, the only times i can really walk is on the weekends. there is no family or friends that live close to me and the ones that live 20 to 30 mins away work alot too... so i was wondering will doing house cleaning/chores help take the place of walking and possibley speed up the contractions? i have tryed warm baths and it doesnt work, i get alot of contractions, but once the bath is over they go back to every 40 to 45 mins. if you dont think that will work does anyone have anything else i can try, maybe certain exercises? keep in mind sex is out.. cause my husband is at work lol... thanks in advance.

Sure cleaning will help! Also, as funny as it sounds, nipple stimulation will also cause contractions! Try it! What have you got to lose? GOOD LUCK!

Yes house chores take place of walking, just remember not to be lifting anything and if you need to bend down take it easy. You can walk outside too, just take a stroll around the backyard/front yard or the block and back, just once in awhile get up and do something other than that get your feet up cause at this point your getting tired easily so that's important, there's no use on pushing yourself right before you go into labor.
Just go tidy up the house, start getting things ready for baby the first day your back, something that keeps your hands and mind busy other than trying to push things along. Time does fly when you do things around the house, or again get some fresh air!
Good luck, congrats!

Hon, your baby still has another week. I know you're tired of being pregnant and eager to be a Mom, but let him or her come in his or her own time.

Meanwhile, take those baths and pamper yourself. Go get a pedicure, and enjoy your last less-responsible days!

If you really just want to get it started, some other things I've heard that work are nipple stimulation, eggplant parmigiana, hot and spicy foods, and cohosh.

Good luck!

doing any activity will help the labor progress. unfortunatly the baby will come when he/she wants. BUT dont get too anxious and go to the hospital right away or theyll send you home, or youll sit there for hours, and hours, and hours, and hours.... get my point :) even if your water breaks some women do not go into true labor right away it may take a little while. But sounds like youre on your way :) congrats!!!

There are LOTS of old wives tales about things that can make you go in labor. There's even websites out there about them. I know because I looked at them when I wanted my baby to come NOW! The bottom line is, the baby will come when it's ready. I know the wait is difficult. Just hang in there.

Try nipple stimulation. Nipple stimulation produces the same hormone as an orgasm that can actually speed up the labor process. And yes light housework can take the place of the walking. Good luck and congrats.

I know this sounds weird and probably a little uncomfortable, but try nipple stimulation with a little baby oil. My doctor told me to try that. It caused some contractions, but not enough! But, it might work for you!!!

Good luck!

Drink orange juice. I don't know why, but it keeps the baby active. They gave it to me in the hospital. The baby jumps around a lot.

Why can't you walk, exactly? Just do some laps inside the house. It makes no difference where you're walking.

4 oz of castor oil mixed with orange juice. This is what my midwife told me to do and I have heard of it before.
