Well, all three of my mine had severe GERD so they had to have rice put in their bottles. They all started on baby food at 4 months, except for my son. He started getting teeth really early so he went right to table food. He was totally on just table food and off of the formula (per the doctor's request) by 8 months. He had like 6 teeth by the time he was 5 months old. My dauther was off of formula by the time she was 10 months old and totally on table food. My kids were all good eaters and the doctor said if they are eating table food, eating it well, and eating enough of it that they no longer need the formula because they are getting all the nutrients and vitamins they need from the food they are eating. All babies are different though, like I said mine also had teeth very early. They all started getting teeth at three months so they were able to eat table foods with no problem.

I didn't read any books, I discussed her starting on solids with her doctor and she stared just before whe was four months old with rice, from there we went to wheat cereal, then oatmeal, fresh fruits and veggies as well as table foods.

I used to work in the infant room at a daycare and we were required to start feeding them rice cereal at 4 months. We mixed fruit in the cereal for breakfast at 8 months and vegetables in their cereal at 4 months for lunch. Hope this helps!
