At some extent expensive brand named clothing are the best. a good investment might be shoes, jeans (because you wear them everyday and the quality of expensive brands such as seven, rock and republic, lucky and even abercrombie/hollister are much better and they last longer too) or a nice bag (because bags are wonderful :]) or somethign really extra special that you cant get anywhere else. otehr than that you can rely on small chain stores (boutiques in your city/town or chain stores like ae, aero, old navy etc etc) to provide the basic foundation to your wardrobe and it's really hwo you wear it that makes an outfit really good (not the brand- trust me on this one- no one is gonna notice your brand name t-shirt if your hair is a mess, you're wearing ugly shows/pants/jewlery or your breathe smells.)

There are a few reasons why I enjoy some brand names. 1. I trust the fit and quality 2. Alot of name brands got that way just since there classics you can't rip off classics. When I'm talking name brand I don't mean hollister or american eagle I like high end name brands(although abercrombies jeans seem to fit and wear in 2 good.) Most of my shopping is done at boutiques, so what I see as name brands might be different. But sometimes I like to check out normal stores just cuz I know I will see like half my class wearing that exact same shirt in a week.

Buying brand name clothes isn't always the best, but there is always the "but".

Your basic clothes should be high quality. Depending on what you wear, I guess. Stuff like jackets, nice shirts, and nice slacks or jeans are what I'm talking about. I always have one or two nice brand name things with each of those items.

Everything else is knockoff!!! Fashion changes so quickly!! If you buy a cute T-shirt that is way too expensive now, just think...next year...that T-shirt will be out of style and then you will regret it. Plus, if you buy knockoff or retail things, most people don't notice and you get more for your money. Who doesn't need an excuse to shop more often?

Good luck!

Yes, buying brand name clothes makes a difference. The quality and fit cannot be beat. The key is to buy your foundation pieces from finer stores. A pair of great fitting jeans, black pants, little black dress, jacket, and a good cashmere sweater. These should be pieces that are timeless and do not go out of style. They are an investment! I would also put a few pairs of shoes in this category. THEN you can go to the less expensive brands and buy the fads for that season. (examples would be wedge heels, leggings, oversized blouces, skinny jeans etc.) These are the items that will be out of style next season so you don't have to spend a ton of money for things you won't get much milage out of. Also- I recommend purchasing a great handbag in a color like black or camel (NO "seasonal" print) that you can use for a few years. DON'T buy a fake!- anyone with half a decent eye can spot a fake anything...that includes sunglasses. So invest in smart pieces that will carry you a few years and spend less on the fads.

I don;t think so, there are so many cheaper clothes that are just as cute as name brand!! Besides, the way fashion is, you could spend $100 on a cute named brand top, when it Will be out of style in a month. I only spend a lot of money on name brand for items I know I'll be able to wear for a long time.

I try not to pay attention to brand names. As long as it fits right, feels nice and is worth your hard earned $$, then I'd go with that. I have found deals at places like Walmart (nice comfy cord pants for under $10). I'm sure if I paid 8x as much at Banana Republic, they wouldn't feel as nice.

Usually you pay more for a name. If it's a regular item of clothing, you're better off paying less and going elsewhere. I have bought expensive clothes just to end up having it destroyed in the laundry, shrinking, or finding it just doesn't fit the way I'd like. Also, women's weight fluctuates all the time. So, why pay so much and have it end up being too small in the future....

You also pay more $$ for trend items... which it useless. Why pay so much for something that will look REALLY DUMB in a year or two?

Special items like leather, suede, etc... it's better off to pay more for QUALITY. Then it will last longer and be worth your money.

I'd rather pay $10 for a white cotton shirt at Target, than pay $50 at the Gap.

Most of the brand names are made in third world countries.. Check the labels. The fad usually goes out within 2 years also , before another fad begins somewhere else.

Not always, unless they are known for thier quality. There are alot of companies that make stylish clothes for decent prices, that way you dont feel bad when you want to toss them. ....a good example is Forever21 and H&M, there are many others. You can always shop in discount designer stores as well...they sell originals (not knockoff) at discount prices...Filene's Basement, TJ Maxx, Century 21, Burlington Coat Factory and BlueFly.com are good places to look.

No, some are the same quality but the brand is not famous. As long as u(the buyer) likes it.some of them are only trying to sale the brand.
