Okay, in my Advanced English class we were practicing doing SAT essays. We did many essays, and then she told us to pick our best one. She told us to make our best SAT essay into a persuasive essay. I'm pretty much braindead right now like i've been all week, so I need help with some ideas. Here's the prompt:

Can people achieve success only if they aim to be perfect?
My arguement on this prompt was that to achieve success, people have to aim to what they think is perfect, or what their version of perfection is, not what society thinks is perfect.

Here's the problem: I have to make a persuasive essay out of this SAT prompt. Any ideas? When you give an idea, please elaborate a bit on it. Thanks!

Changing it to a persuasive essay isn't that tough, you can still use your same arguments as your other essay you are just changing the format to persuade people to believe your thoughts are correct. So in order to do that you can present ideas that would go against your view - so what society things is perfect should be correct and you say however, its not that way because....

When you do it try to appeal to peoples emotions, personal experiences and rationality as that is what seperates a persuasive from expository!

Think of your audience as well...teachers? parents? students? because that will determine the language you use whether it be more formal or informal etc.
Good luck! Take a break from it for a while if you can then get back to it!

You should argue that when people aim for perfection, they will be let down by the slightest imperfection, and be more likely to give up hope on their dreams. It's better to aim for improvement.

Say I'm a fat woman and I want to be "perfect." I want to lose 100 pounds by May, so that I can wear a bikini in the summer. I calculate that means I need to lose 8 pounds per week. If I only lose 4 pounds the first week, I'll be upset and scrap the whole idea.

If I aim for improvement instead, I tell myself I won't drink any soda today, and I'll talk a walk for 30 minutes. I do this every day, and because I reach my short term goals every day, I am happy and satisfied that I can do it. I also realize that 100 pounds by May won't be feasible, but I can lose a few per week, and should be in good shape by next fall.

So, if yes - explain Y perfection is a good guide to success, and if no - explain why falling short of perfection is still a success.
