So the one sided statements from the conservative gods like Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh are different? All I hear from the those guys when I'm subjected to there dribble is you know what the problem with the democrats are.....

Conservatives like to point the finger, but hate to have it pointed at themselves, typical.

I guess because you haven't met any liberals willing to engage in such a conversation. I could say that I've run into a certain group of conservatives as well who are only interested in put down games, etc, but I know that they are not the majority-only a rather loud minority. I would hope you would keep your mind open to the fact that there are liberals willing to participate in a meaningful and respectful conversation. Personally, I am more interested in learning things and looking at a situation from a different point of view than I am interested in name calling or cussing.

I consider myself a real-life far-left liberal, though I'm not sure what you mean by the term "San Francisco". I believe that two loving people who are committed to each other should be allowed to marry. I believe that medical procedures are the business of the individual involved and their doctor. I believe that all forms of medication that have been proven beneficial should be allowed to be legally used. I'm assuming those are the issues that would qualify me to proudly use all the terms above.

That being said, I am always glad to talk with those with opposing viewpoints in a polite and respectful manner. Last weekend I visited a friend who had not one but two autographed photos of George and Laura Bush on her refrigerator. We found we could talk about the Bushes and the Clintons and find common ground, and we parted friends. I have another friend who is an ardent right-to-life person, and I respect her position because she walks her talk--she adopted two children--and I have often told her so.

I try to get to this board once a day during the week. I will be looking forward to your posts and will be interested in reading what you say. The only way we can get along with others in the world is to remember that they are entitled to their opinion, and that respectful dialog can lead to understanding.

Two of my high school teachers, that I can remember, were real life, far-left, San Francisco (one of them was actually from San Francisco, the other was from LA) type liberals.

They were really nice, and were very capable of sustaining a conversation, even about politics, without any of the stuff you've described.

Same goes for one of my old friends. I don't talk to her much anymore, but that's just because she lives across the country.

And no, I'm not a like-minded liberal.

I'm sorry, but you're wrong.

You have asked the million dollar question! After many a failed attempt to get a decent dialogue going with a liberal, I am convinced they cannot have a meaningful discussion because they really have NO ANSWERS!

Because they have to be politically correct about everything. Ordinary people are turned off by this. I'm not saying Liberals aren't intelligent. I'm just saying that a lot of intelligent people lack common sense.
