The people here that said don't clean the coins get an A. The ones that said use coke get an F. Do not clean coins, it will lower their value and in some cases, the coin will have no value as a collector item. If it is rare coin with some dirt problems see a coin dealer so he can send it out to a conservation company and have it done by the Pros. Copper coins are hardest to clean and damage can easily be done. I do know how to get dirt and gunk off coins, but it has taken me years to be good at it so the coin will not be damaged. You can't learn over night. If the coins have a value of $25 and up try your local coin dealer for help.

Try pouring regular Coke over them and letting them sit in it for about a half hour.....the chemicals in the coke will take the tarnish right off the coins
