check to make sure its in the right way, clean it (you can use soap and water, it wont break it.... just dont use a tissue) and make sure it works in a dvd player..... (if it doesnt then somethings wrong with it.)

If it isn't your disc - the other option is the laser in the PS2 is dirty - you can clean it with a kit or take the PS2 apart - WARNING - there are a lot of screws holding it together.

clean the disk.
use a scratch repair kit on the disk.
open the tray and re-insert the disk.
try another disk.

same thing happened to me. ur best bet is to get a new one. thats what i did since trying to fix it myself made it worse. or you can call sony and have them replace it with a refubished one or they can repair it. but i suggest to get it replaced with a refurbished one.
