Just thought id add an evolutionry perspective to annies great personal answer. If you are infertile and your body knows it, it will put more energy into living (two goals of life are living and reproducing) so you may live longer. Also your genes will still get passed on through family members and you have time to do whatever you want!

Disadvantages your genes get passed on less and you might find it harder to find a partner.

I'm infertile and you're definitely right- there's pro's and con's...

Advantages-
I've never had to buy feminine products. I don't get cramps. I don't have to worry about whether my birth control is working. ("Could I be pregnant?" is definitely NOT a question I will ever ask.)

Disadvantages-
I want to be a mother. Adoption requires my whole life be put under a microscope and judged by people who don't know me. (I have a little bit of a soap box when it comes to adoption...)Surrogacy is even more expensive than adoption. Becoming a parent can't be a private thing- there's case workers, lawyers, judges, doctors, investigators, often there are birth parents and their families. People think you're selfish for "not wanting children," when they haven't the first clue.

Advantages: You won't have any kids.

Disadvantages: You won't have any kids.

I consider it advantageous, but I think most women would loathe it.
