I am about to work at a family owned (my family) new machine shop.
I guess wel have welding and some other fabing. But I want to start like fixing dirt bikes and atv's but I never went to school for it. Do I need to have a lisnece, or is that just to have the buyer think better?

It's in a buisness that will have a permit and all to own the Machine shop. Engine repair will be another thing it does.

You may need a business license, or a use and occupancy permit that lists small engine repair for your business location, but you do not need a special license to work on them!!

having ridden both for an huge time i ought to absolutely finish that a quad is way better risky. first of all, quads are a lot heavier and usually better sensible than motorcycles. i ought to journey a 250 quad via the time i grow to be 12 and couldnt journey a 250 motorbike till about 15, so with this sizing massive difference your usually driving with a higher motorbike a lot youthful than with motorcycles. 2d, quads have 4 wheels and four axis of tipping extremely than motorcycles with 2, so a bike is better forgiving at the same time as it includes jumping and landing difficult hits. jumping or manuvering a quad the incorrect way ought to actual get you thrown off, because with the quads higher footprint it is going to do what it needs, while a bike grant you with some wiggle room. 0.33, dealing with. this kinda is going with 2 yet at the same time as driving trails and washes the quad could have a rougher time to that end supply u better probability to crash. take an uneven whoops area, a quad with not in hardship-free words be rocking again and forth, yet also part to part, so then it better like a mechanical bull journey, compared to a bike that doesnt supply a part to part rock, to that end better tender of a journey than the quad. ive crashed exceptionally difficult on stuff like this from going too quickly on a quad yet have had no situation going a similar velocity on a bike. so i'm hoping i helped in giving u a number of my data and reviews about both automobiles, yet purely to inform you both way u flow your suseptable to crashes and falls, i mean they both have very ability for deadly injuries so be careful and understand you skill set regardless.

No you don't need to have a mechanics license to repair motorcycles, dirt bikes, quads, scooters, mopeds, mini bikes, water craft, cars, lawn mowers, chain saws, weed wackers, etc.
The building you work out of should be a licensed repair shop, for insurance purposes.

Guardrail is correct. If you would like some training, consider going to American Motorcycle Institute or Motorcycle Mechanics Institute. Its an expense, but, its definately very good training. You can find both places on line.

You will be asking for problems if you try to fix those machines without training.....maybe not because you don't have a license but more so that they are very complicated despite their looks. Get some training . You won't be sorry.

I think that you should get a license because it`s illegal to repair dirt bikes and atv`s.
