light, parts, preexit, prepackage, readjust, recapture, reconstruct, reheat, relocate

You sort these words as above because it is ..k L m n o P q R...

The words that begin with the same letter, you sort them by considering the second one. e.g. pArts, pReexit...

If the second letter is same, you consider the third. e.g.
reAdjust, reLocate... etc.

If the third is same too, you consider the fourth and it goes like that.

light,parts,prebuilt,preexit,prepackage,preview,
readjust,recapture,reconstruct,reheat,relocate and so on.
Begin by looking at the first letter of each word.
After the word "light" several words started with the letter p so then we look at the second letter of the word. "Parts" started with pa --the other words beginning with p had the prefix pre so you look at the fourth letter of each word to determine abc order and the same with the following words. Hope this helps.

First put toghether the words according to their first letters, in the order that they come in the alphabet.
I see you have mostly "p" and "r" words and a few words that start with other letters.
So put the "p" and "r" words into a group and the other words (light, co..., where, etc) wherre they come in the alphabet.
Then sort the words in the group according to their second letter and third letters. That is, for example, readjust would come before reheat, then relocate, etc. Leave in a group those whose second and third letters are the same.
Then go into each group and sort them according to their fifth, sixth, etc letter, however far you need to go.
For an example of alphabetised words that have the same first few letters, look in your dictionary or phone book and see how they are sorted according to the fist letter in the word that is different. Then sort these words the same way.
Good for you helping your child with their homework but be sure and guide them to do it for themselves, don't do it for them, even if it may seem easier to do it yourself than to help them do it. It's just like chores around the house. It may be easier in the short run to do it than to get them to do it, but it's better in the long run if they can do it.

Asking yahoo members to do your child's homework isn't going to teach your child anything.
Sorting words into ABC order (more properly called alphabetical order) means you put them in order beginning with the first letter of each word.
I'm not going to use the words you gave, because this is just an example.
If you had streets, roads, avenues, trucks, stop signs and traffic lights, you would begin with avenues, because that's the lowest letter of the alphabet. Nest would be roads, because that's the next lowest. Now you have two that begin with 's' - streets and stop signs. Both begin with 's' so you move to the second letter. both have 't' so you move to the third letter. O comes before 'r' so stop signs will come before streets. Again you have two beginnning with 't' so you have to go to the second letter. Again, the second letter is the same, so you have to go to the thid letter. Traffic's third letter is 'a' which is lower than truck's third letter which is 'u', so traffic will come before truck.
Do you understand how to do it now/ Can you explain that to your child and LET HIM OR HER DO THIER OWN HOMEWORK. They don't learn anything by having you do it for them.

If you are old enough to have children sorting those words in alphabetical order, you SERIOUSLY NEED HELP. YOU should know how to do this, and so should your child. If your child doesn't know how to do this, YOU should help, not DO the homework for your child. You're teaching your child a far more detrimental (harmful) lesson by having his or her homework done for him or her. Here's the alphabetical order of the feelings you should be having right about now: disgust, guilt, shame, stupidity.

Not to be rude, but If you are a parent and you need help with your child's homework, something is wrong. I mean aren't you smart enough to figure out words in ABC order? Its not that hard you know. Just start with the A words, then B, then C, and so on...... Its not that hard, come on now.

Are you really telling us you don't know the order the letters of the alphabet are arranged?
I remember a song I used to sing in primary school. It went A, B, C, D, E, F, G, etc., etc. .......... Perhaps you could learn it from your child !

if you seriously dont know how to put things in alphabetical order then you need to go back to elementary school. things that start with a go first, then b, etc. if there are two words that start with the same letter then go to the next letter in the word. example: apple, carrot, dog, fairy, fun, fund, grape, jump, lamb, purple, zoo
