Depeche Mode did it first
It has been covered by Johny Cash, and a few others, but as a DM fan, I d say their verson is way superior.
Trivia: Martin Gore ( who wrote the lyrics for the song) said he got the inspiration for the song from a book he read by Priscilla Presley about her late father, Elvis. She says in it that Elvis was her "Personal Jesus."

Don't Know but Mr Cash was like one of the most famous ever. He went from rock in the 50's and 60's to country till the 90's and then right back to the top of rock. Man was the genius at singing and writing.

I don't care for Marilyn Manson much, but his cover of Personal Jesus ROCKS!
