I'm a tall guy -- about 6'4". In my work I have some responsibilities that involve lifiting 30-60 lbs from the floor, or working with heavy materials requiring me to stoop down. All of this creates a lot of lower back pain for me. Any ideas on what I can do to prevent back injuries?

Have you seen the wide belts some people use?
You should ask your boss if there's a "Body Mechanics" class available to teach you how to prevent injuries.

Hey man, it's crazy cause i can relate just in the opposite way. I'm a guy who's only a little over 5'4" and wish that i was even a little taller and would measure myself all the time trying things to make myself grow. The thing is man, no matter what our height is not going to change and even if it did change a little bit it wouldn't really help. Because even if somehow i grew like 2 or 3 inches or you shrunk 2-3 inches i'd still be "short" and you'd still be "tall" by someone's standard. Hell they had originally thought that the "new" James Bond actor was too "short" to play the character and he's 5'10"! If it's any consolation, you shouldn't worry about getting bigger since you're more than likely done growing by now and as for being teased in school...i wouldn't worry about that either cause our generation is taller than the last and there are A LOT of 6ft + guys out there, so you are not in the minority or anything. I know it's hard thing to do when guys like us are not happy with the height we are given but we have to accept ourselves for who we are, height and all. that being said, you should not try all these painful and damaging things to shorten yourself cause you won't lose any height and you'll end up damaging your back in ways that could possibly last the rest of your life. Be proud of who you are outside or beyond your height, we all have something about ourselves that we have to accept. Mine being that i'm pretty short guy, you being that your fairly tall(not really too tall), and other guys who don't like being averaged height and so on and so forth. Hope you feel better man and killing yourself would not be the answer, and certainly not for something like this but i know it's hard i felt the same way but be strong man, you'll get through this.

Use proper body mechanics by squatting and using your leg muscles--not stooping. It would also be beneficial to start a core-strengthening program in order to try to help prevent injuries.

stooping will do it every time.
learn to lift by bending your legs and use them to lift ,not your back.
