most people think of it as being derogatory, since (historically) most people who were considered geeks were also lacking in social skills. This is really no longer true. Most of the people I have seen studying computer science and engineering in the modern world have to be very adept at communication and working collaboratively with others. The early geeks tended to be alone in their field, and so it didn't really matter how socially adept they were. That being said, a "geek" is someone with an uncommon knowledge and skill in the area of electronics and/or computer technology or programming. For those working in the field, it is an honor to be called the geek (or guru) by your peers. The alpha geek is the one that everyone else goes to when they have a question, i.e. the lead technician.

Geek's are also known as computer nerds. Geeks are the people who spend more time with computers than with people. Therefore a Computer Geek is someone who know how computers (or technology) works.

A computer geek is by definition:
A person who is fanatically interested in computers. In the positive sense, the word can mean someone who is very knowledgeable about computers. In the negative sense, it implies someone who has few social skills, and is only comfortable communicating with computers.
