Hard to believe there are at least 3 different answers (all but 1 wrong) posted to this. If 26 more than the product of two numbers is -1, then the product must be negative itself. In fact, it must be -27, as 26 more than -27 is -1.

The equation (written as the sentence is written) is:
26 + 8x = -1
26 + 8x - 26 = -1 - 26
8x = -27
(8x)/8 = -27/8
x = -3.375

I think the original equation should read:

26+8x= -1
8x= -27
x= -27/8

first you add 26 to the -1 to get 25 then you divide 25 by 8 to get the answer- its algebra

8x + 26 = -1

*** note- the previous answer is wrong, if you did it like that instead of making a equation you would subtract 26, not add it (if you multiply 8 * x and add 26 it needs to come out to a negative answer not a positive one).

since your adding to find the product plus something else, you first do
26+(8n)= -1
subtract 26 from both sides
-26 -26
so now:
8n= -27
divide both sides by 8 and you get:
n=3.375, or 3 and 3/8

8N= -1+26

8N/8=N
-1+26=25
N=25/8

N=3.125

IT'S A POSITIVE 26+-1THAT = 25 RETARDS!!!
That's the answer

26 + (8X) = -1
26 + 8X = -1
8X = -1 -26
8X = -27
X = (-27)/8
X = -27/8 or -3.375

I would give it a shot but I suck in Algebra; some of these wrong answers would be one of my answers.
