Ideally a 'rifle' mic would be the best for the job, might make your teacher nervous though...!
Unidirectional would be best from a distance because it would pick up less extraneous noise. It would be courteous to ask your lecturer if they minded being recorded, why don't you ask and then arrange to sit closer to the front of the class. Your laptop mic might do the job in those circumstances, but if you use your keyboard, you're only going to hear typing...
It might be worth investing in a small digi-recorder, asking permission and leaving it at the friont of the class to make the recording, then you can sit anywhere...

Get a digital voice recorder. They range from about $20 - $500, depending on the features. The M-Audio Microtrack 24/96 is pretty cool if you have the money to get it. Otherwise, a cheaper digital recorder will do. If you're paying for school in college, you can record the lecture.
