People say bring back good TV, but I don't think that TV was ever really GOOD. Ok, let me put it this way, I don't think there was ever a time when TV was better. Ok, in the beginning of TV there were things on TV that we don't have now, unless you go to PBS, but they are still there is you look, and we do have things like HBO and Showtime, etc which bring made for TV shows, and some of those are excellent. But years ago you had some TV shows that brough you live TV plays. I think that may be what people may remember as GOOD Tv. I remember some plays with Lee J Cobb and other big names that were fantastic, but we don't really need these, we can rent movies, we can get them sent to the house by Netflix or Blockbuster, so it's not so important to have them on the TV anymore.
There also were shows like Milton Berle, very funny comedy shows, nothing like that anymore. But we have better TV weekly shows these days, but then we have things like Donald Trump on TV, so it all sort of evens out. We used to have Leonard Bernstein doing musical shows on TV, but you can find that on PBS. There was Omnibus which taught you something different every Sunday, but again, look to PBS and you will find whatever you want, whenever you want, and we have the History channel and the Biography channel. So, what really is the Golden Age. It's whatever you make of it. Tv is there for you to make the best of it. Unfortunately we no longer have the Indian as we have TV 24 hours a day, that's our one loss.

I don't think it ever was. When I was a kid there were a lot of good cartoon shows there would only have been perhaps 2 or 3 of these on a week. So when I was a kid there was perhaps 2 hours of great TV each week and 3 or 4 hours of mediocre shows I watched.
I have not watched TV for more than 2 hours a week for the past year. Aside from Doctor Who (which I have always loved), David Attenborough (fantastic nature shows) and some rare comedy show (Black Books, Extras...), I find almost nothing is worth seeing these days.
Perhaps there best is yet to come? Or maybe TV will always be mostly mediocre.

As I try to look back, as far back as the mid '50's, when I was a boy and first watching black and white tv, and try to keep "nostalgia" out of my thinking and just remain as objective as I can, I may not ever say that television was "good", but I can clearly say that it was so much better than today that, even if "good" were a relative value, the gap between how sickening tv is now and how it was back then, and into the early 1960's, is so HUGE, that that gap could EASILY be spelled "g-o-o-d", and that adjective would be awarded to the 1950's and early 1960's. I'm not saying that tv was ever worth the time it took to use it or the money we spend to view it today, but I can say it's sure one helluva lot more grotesque and pathetic today than it was back in the '50's and early '60's. God Bless you.

I don't believe that TV is any better or worse than it was years ago, I remember the shows I liked and those have survived as reruns, but I am sure there were plenty of bad shows too, I have just forgotten about them. The problem now is that our sense of values seems to be slipping. Things that they show now would never have been allowed then. I realize some were a little extreme, such as Lucy & Ricky, a married couple having seperate beds? A little unbelievable, but somewhere along the way we crossed the line. I am worried about how far it will go.

Yes, nostalgia seems to make yesterdays better. Human nature. In the old days you only had 2 or 3 channels to choose from. Never was there any curse words, sexual content, bloody messy violence. Now nothing is left to the imagination. T.V. used to be a "babysitter" in some homes, not any more. Now as responsible adults and parents we need to monitor what we will or will not let our little ones watch. Good T.V. was just that...good. My kids are all grown now, they can watch what they want. My grandchildren have to deal with gramma changing the channel now!

Tv was good in the 1960s-1980s. I remember shows like Bewitched, I dream of Jeannie, Brady Bunch, Love Boat and a lot of shows that were good to watch. Now everything is stupid.

TV was good when they had shows on like Threes Company, Dukes Of Hazzard, Hawaii Five O, Dallas, Quincy, Trapper John MD, Knotts Landing, Starsky And Hutch. I could go on and on. I wish they would show the repeats at least. Ah, those were the days!!

-All of Van Dame, Sylvester Stalone & John Travoltas' Movies

1960s to the 1970s. That Girl, Bewitched, Twilight Zone, Green Acres, Mary Tyler Moore, Dick Van Dyke, Love Boat, Love American Style, Bob Newhart, and Courtship of Eddie's Father. That Girl is my favorite!!!! All the shows today are about sex, drugs, violence, crime, and fashion. Or reality shows. There's no more good, clean comedy. Today, if you want clean comedy, it's not funny at all. There has to be sex and violence to make anything funny. But back then, clean comedy was good comedy!

there is so much trash on tv these days....I don't bother to watch most of it anymore.....I watch mostly sports and an occasional movie or documentary......but the tv shows are just sleazy/trash........this probably started in the early 90s or so cause before that I never complained. Maybe the future will be better, but somehow I doubt it.
