You'll be drugged and the pain is so minor it can easily be taken care of by tylenol. It's not a big deal at all!

Unfortunately for you, your parents did not have you circumcised. Well, now that you have read all the nonsense from the young inexperienced women and uncircumcised men who have answered, both of which can know nothing about circumcision, I will tell you the truth. I chose to be circumcised as an adult, so I know what I'm talking about. You will be given either a local or a general anaesthetic, so you will feel no pain at all during the circumcision. Afterwards, you may feel very slight soreness for a day or so, but you could always take an analgesic tablet which would deal with that, if you really needed to do so. During the healing, which will take 2-3 weeks, the only times when you will experience any discomfort is during night time erections which will wake you up as the stretching pulls on the stitches. Just get up and walk around until your erection goes down, then go back to sleep. Once you are healed, you will start to enjoy all the benefits which only circumcised men (and their female sexual partners) can understand - better hygiene, comfort, appearance and acceptance by women, self-esteem and FAR better sexual sensation for both you and your female partner(s) There are no disadvantages to being circumcised and it really should be routine for all males. Do yourself and your future girlfriends a favour - get it done! You will never regret it.

Here is an account of one man's adult circumcision:
http://www.circinfo.com/an_account.html

I would recommend searching "adult circumcision" and reading the pros and cons.

Critics of adult circumcision point to its disadvantages, among which include:

* temporary pain after the operation (this is true for any surgery)
* temporary irritation of the glans (the head of the penis)
* different and/or decreased sensation during sex
* risk of complications and/or surgical errors (again, as with any surgery)

Also, for what it's worth, health care providers recommend that after circumcision a man abstains from any kind of sexual activity for four to six weeks to allow for a full recovery. In fact, even having an erection in this period of time after the procedure can cause complications, such as discomfort, pain, and disruption of the sutures. Moreover, some men may find arousal, erection, and/or ejaculation to be so uncomfortable that they may not mind the break from sex.

Proponents of adult circumcision advocate it for a number of reasons, including:

* cleanliness or ease of maintaining hygiene
* slightly reduced risk of getting sexually transmitted infections (STIs), such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV — the virus that causes AIDS) and human papillomavirus (HPV — the virus that causes genital warts).

Also, make sure you understand what is meant by "nerve endings." It is not necessarily the number, but the type that are removed. The most sensitive and sexually important nerve endings are in the head of the penis, and circumcision leaves that unaffected.

Hope this helps!

It's done at the doctor's office, you will have medication through an IV. After it's done, you'll have some pain medication for just a few days. The pain should be gone within a couple of days. Good luck. ~~~

If you want it done by all means go and get it done

I got circumcized rather reluctantly at age 28 & it's one of the best things I've done.

There is some pain but it's NOT THAT BAD!!!!! 5-6 weeks & if you want to have sex go for it

There is no reason to get a circumcision unless there is a medical emergency. The American Medical Association and the American Pediatric Association both say that routine circumcision is unnecessary.

The rates of circumcision have fallen from 90% of babies in 1968 to under 65% in 2004, and the rate continues to fall. Parents are waking up to the fact that removing the foreskin reduces pleasure for the adult male, and does nothing to prevent disease or other problems.

Be aware that adults (I'd count you in that group) who have a circumcision typically report reduced sexual feeling, and some are unable to climax during intercourse, having to finish by hand afterward. This is due to the reduced stimulation.

I had that done in the early 60s. They put me out for it. It took about 6 weeks before I was back in the saddle. They gave me pain pills but I didn't need them. I'm sure that since then the technology for this has greatly improved. If it wasn't that bad many years ago I'm sure it's even better now.

Before I actually did research on circumcision, I was all for it. It was most American women are used to. It is standard. I am so glad now that I hadn't had a son while I was still ignorant of what it is really all about. I would NEVER have it done now. If you are electing to have this surgery...and it is not for a medical issue...I would STRONGLY encourage you to research it before you do. Men who have had it done in their adult years have reported 70 to 90% loss of sensitivity after the circumcision.
