I have all A's in 5 of my classes but a C+ in one of my classes. The class that I got a C+ was an honors course. I'm really worried because overall my GPA is a 3.7, but I have a C+ in one of my classes. Are they going to make a huge deal out of it? This was only the first semester and I'm planning to bring that honors course up into an A next semester. Also I'm not trying to get into a very competitive college or anything. I'm freaking out right now because I never had a C in any of my classes before.

They definitely look at GPA, sometimes taking honors doesn't mean much to them. However, if you take AP classes, then they look at the grades in those, but overall they look at GPA and SAT scores, it saves them time in the admission process.

you sound a lot like me
i have all A's but i got an A- as a freshmen in a jr/sr course
ive asked college application people and they say they look at a combination of the two. In your case, i dont think they will care too much because it was an horons course
they also look at other things such as extra ciricular activites and community service (well usually)

College boards look at everything. What they want is someone who is well rounded. They want someone who excels in academics and is also involved in extracurricular activities. If you're not going for the really competitive schools, based on your information, you'll have no problem getting into the school you want. Don't worry, one C won't kill your chances. Good luck!

They look at both. They would rather take someone who has taken honor classes and has a 3.45 gpa than someone who is finally taking geometry and has a gpa of 3.8...
Just make sure you don't geta nother C

colleges read thousands and thousands of applications from wet noses like yourself and don't have time to dig into every single class. if they get a ton of applicants with 3.8 or 3.9 GPAs, they will filter you out faster than the blink of an eye. sorry for the bad news but welcome to reality.

more and more universities are looking at the courses you take. Don't sweet it if you have good grades and one is not so wonderful, unless your looking at getting into Yale or something, you'll be fine!
