If they aren't asking for the help, they get angry for someone getting in there business.
If they are asking for help, they get mad because they don't like what they are hearing.

I'm extremely independant and whereas I don't really get mad, I do get annoyed at times. For those of us like that, it is sort of insulting if you get my drift. Whereas we can be appreciative at times, the nature of the beast is we'll be "offended" as it tends to be help that you really don't want. In my case, I was made extremely independant by a partner I had who made you feel ungrateful for anything she did (which usually had many strings attached) and who would at a minutes notice put you down if you really did in fact need help with something. An example being I had to drop my car in to get some work done and I needed a lift home. "You think I've got nothing better to do than chase after you". So, if you don't ask and you take a cab you get "Why didn't you ask me, I'd have got you, glad you have the money to waste on taxis"....SEE!

Sometimes people often pry into other peoples' business too much. They are looked at as being "nags" not as being helpful. It may also be in your approach. Perhaps many people are confronting this same individual about the situation and they feel they are being attacked. Not knowing the circumstances it is quite difficult to say.

Pride is a dangerous thing. People don't like being in the position to ask for even god forbid accept help.

Why do some people insist on "helping" when their help is neither wanted, nor very helpful?

Sometimes they get embarrassed. Offer help then shut up about it till they accept.
