You could always ring your local vet to see what Dori's chances are.

With regards to future fish that you may have, never keep the full tub of food near the fish tank. Always empty out enough for just one feed into a small container and leave this nex to the tank, putting the food tub of food high up in a cubpoard. Then your son can still remain in charge of feeding them everyday but without the danger of giving them the wrong amount. Maybe you can start introducing the process of measuring the food quanity when he is a bit older to understand.

Fingers crossed for Dori xx

They are very sick and could die if not quickly remedied. The reasons are if it was a big tub of flake food that was tipped in the fish could have eaten too much and constipated them or the water surface is blocked and lessened the amount of air. If so scoop out the food then install a small air pump to create more air.

IVe had fish that float back up to the top but can still swim.
This might sound silly but if the fish is gulping quite heavily and doesn'y look asif it's breathing properly get a straw and blow right next to it , this way your blowing oxygen into the water do it for a while though, it sounds daft but i did it and my fish started picking up again, ive had to do it twice nad it works everytime and my fish are still ok.
Give it a try , i thought my fish was about to die because it was lying on top of the water i looked at it the next morning and it was swimming about happily. Also make sure the water is fresh so that theres enough oxygen to keep it breathing. Good luck and please try it.
Hope this helped

Every cell has DNA and it is consisted of two strands tightly woven around each other. The thing that prevents the two strands from breaking apart is called a telomeric cap (which is random nucleotide sequences called nonsense codons. Codon is a 3 sequence of nucleotides that codes for amino acids eg. CUU is a amino acid called proline . A nonsense codon is one that doesnt code for any amino acid production) Every time your cells divide a small sequence is lost there by reducing the stability of the cell's DNA (in layman's terms). This will eventually lead do most of Ur cells' DNA becoming unstable. And usually when a mistake occurs in DNA the cell will perform auto cytolysis (cell suicide) to prevent problems. So when you are old most of ur cells telomeric caps will be low and they are prone to die when they try to divide.. Whats really interesting about this theory is the impact it has on evolution (because this happens on both meiotic as well as mitotic divisions. which means that a species grows old too before it mutates.. but thats a different story)

i sympathise with you most kids try to be helpful but is not always the case.......... give the tank/bowl a water change make sure plenty of air also the temp of the tank is important......may be too close to a radiator........also there could be a disease in the tank which has only know come to light.......if it is a fancy goldfish some do swim at funny angles because of their swim bladders.....but you should seek advice from nearest aqaurium/fish retailers the genuine ones will give you good free advice

your child has to be taught that through his action this is the concequence of over feeding. You understand why he done it as he was only helping out. But let him know that at feeding times you need to be there (you can give him the quantity to put in so he still feels a sense of responsibily) and in future if you dont want them to have it keep it out of reach. Fish is a gonner im afraid!

I have heard about this many times...sadly if you do tip the whole tub of food in the tank the fish will die...it has happened to me and even my friends..after the fish dies qucikly get a new one so your son won't notice and not feel bad that he killed it.

The memory span of a goldfish is so short it cannot remember that it has just eaten. So the presence of food in his tank stimulates the fish into keeping on eating. In effect what has happened is that your goldfish ate itself to death. So that your son will remember the event make a big thing of the funeral and explanations of goldfish heaven coupled with advice on the feeding of future occupants of the tank.
