I have a formal coming up and I need to know what I'm supposed to wear, I figured a dress shirt and tie, would work but what else, also what are some suggestions for color and whatever

to a formal party a guy should wear a black tux you dont want to wear white unless your date is going to aswell ... wear a black tux with an dark blue or red vest and if you want to really be the bell of the ball wear a pink vest with a white tux and make sure your shirt is a french tip shirt (the shirt made for cuff links)

You really should wear a dark suit to a formal party. If its very, very formal stick with an ironed longsleeved white oxford cloth shirt, shined black shoes (maybe even a solid color) and belt with a very plain buckle. Gotta wear a subtle tie and leave it on for the duration. Black socks. Plain white Undershirt is essential. When you stand up button one middle button of the jacket; as you sit down unbutton the button as you do. Don't drive in the jacket; it will rumple it up. This is for a conservative type person. A more casual person might wear a navy blue blazer with a rep tie and a white shirt as above. Go light on the cologne.
Artists, writers and theatre people often wear a longsleeved black turtleneck under a jacket or blazer so that they can avoid the tie.

for a formal event you should wear a plain black tux, but nowadays you might be able to get away with a suit., a white shirt and black tie.

i think you should wear black and white, with a red, or navy blue and grey tie. my brother wore it in he was looking too good!!! gudluck
