It sounds like you are trying to type in read-only mode. Try right-clicking on the document you want to open, and under properties, change it to editable. Then open the document again.

Sometimes if you select or start another program, Microsoft Word will go on standby until you click on the window. You can also click on the area of where you want to type so that you can start off at the right place. If you inserted or resized any boxes, shapes, clip art or tables, try clicking out of it and see what happens, If none of these work, restart your computer and see if works again for you because sometimes if you hold the Shift key for too long, you can't type anything. If this does not work neither, it either because the keyboard is going bellies up or you have virus (I listed a few free anti-virus if this is the problem in my resources.) I hope this answer was a big help to you.

Word thinks that the file is open by another user...

You may have it open twice... check the task bar...

Just save the file with a new name ... like fileName-2

You will then be able to edit the file..

You may have too reboot to get Word to forget about being ... locked for edit

HOPE THIS HELPS

GOOD LUCK

You must go to "Help" and see what you need to do for your particular computer to "unlock" the edit feature.
