Sadly not a whole lot, it's hard to make people feel sorry for animals that have 80 or more teeth and thousands of pounds per square inch of bite pressure, as you can see.

Some places have put protections on the habitats in which endangered crocodilians live. There are also harsh legal penalties for trying to sell pieces of certain species of crocodilians. Crocodilians that can be used for leather or meat go through a tagging process so that -ANY- skin of say, an alligator, before it has been turned into a handbag or wallet, can be taken, have the tag number looked at, and from that you can determine exactly where that alligator came from. All legal crocodilian hides are handled in this manner.

Also, alligator and crocodile farms take pressure off of wild populations by supplying legal, high quality skins for the many many people willing to spend money for them.
