Whether they are a kill or no kill shelter.

Well, your right, you are saving an animal. Most people go into the animal shelter looking kittens or pups. Look at some of the cats that are a little older. Make sure that the place is clean. Let the people allow you to mingle the with the animal. You should make sure that the cat is not sneezing, doesn't have a runny nose, eyes are not running water, etc. Ask about the history of the cat. Get it's medical file. They should interview you to make sure that you are a good parent. You may not walk out with an animal that day because most shelter actually check reference now. Be patient. I would advise going early in the morning. This way, you can make sure you have the right choice.

i always go for the shelters that are NO KILL!! I just think that is just cruel to kill an animal for no reason.

if by saving u mean killing than u are so correct. "saving" animals is setting them free. duhhhhh
