Birth Center has the option of birthing in a large bathtub, also I can eat & drink to keep my strength up & I can walk around & use gravity to aid delivery they also have a birth stool, birth balls & other aids to deliver naturally. They do not use epidurals, they can’t enduce labor & if anything should go wrong I would have to be sent to the nearest hospital anyway. Hospital L&D will have me lying on my back hooked up to an IV Not allow me to eat or drink (just in case) I will not have as much control or options as to how to deliver my child. But if the pain gets too much there is an epidural (I don’t know if that is good or bad as once I get it I probably wont be able to push or feel properly & the idea of having a catheter scares me) If anything does go wrong they have people on hand to deal immediately & after the birth they keep you in for 24 hours, the birth center only keeps you for 4 hours but they send a midwife to your home the day after & again a week after birth.

It's your body, your baby and your birth, don't let hospital rules and regs dictate to you how you are going to give birth. Woman have been giving birth outside hospitals far longer than in them and we haven't died out as a species. From what you have described, I'd go for the birthing center!!!!!

A good Doctor has following points.. *His social or communication skills with the patients which constitutes both verbal and non-verbal (body language) communication...As our profession is a Community Service. *He should be a role model (a doctor who tells his/her patients to quit smoking should not be seen smoking outside the hospital 5 minutes after the patient leaves.. where's the intergrity in this right?) *He should be able to communicate in a way the patient understands (not going off on the properties of amino acids... etc. etc) as this may come out as arrogance *He, IDEALLY should follow up on his patients ... give them phone calls to see how they're doing *The doctor should be WILLING TO TEACH!!... this goes along very well with preventive health care. The doctor should give the patients the fishing rods, rather than the fish. If a doctor knows how to teach his/her patient what to do and what not to do, the doctor will be able to help the patient change his lifestyle for the better so that the patient doesn't have to keep coming back. *>And last but not the least he must be INTELLIGENT, UPDATED, And Most Of all ETHICAL. If this is your first baby, the hospital is the safest .Personally for my unborn child's health and safety, and my own,I would always choose the L&D at the hospital.I know from experience that the "few minutes" away from a hospital is really never a few minutes. It takes more than a few minutes to get you examined and prepped for a emergency C-section,having your OB in house or the OB on call or on duty, they don't know you from Adam,so more time is taken to assure your safety and that of your baby.A baby in distress from lack of oxygen only takes a few minutes to become brain damaged.I would never choose a birth center, ever because of these and many many reasons. The hospital L&D staff will allow the birth method you want, and thats never a problem.Choosing a Epidural isn't a failure, its a way to give birth more comfortably and in a shorter time, because the mom is not fighting and tensing with her contractions etc,and it will be in the "birthing room" unless you have a C-section.You would also have Neonatologist or Pediatricians there in case there's a problem with the baby. I wouldn't risk myself or the baby, for "natural" delivery. Take a tour of hospital and talk to the staff, its done all the time, maybe that will help you make a good descion, and feel comfortable.about your choice. Many hospitals use the jacquzzi tubs also, they've come along way too. SW RNP

I would go to a hospital and get the epidural. I don't understand why women want to go through natural birth with all the pain when there is an alternative. But, to each his own I guess.
