We had a good standard of living in my tribe, and were one of the more prosperous nations. We were farmers, and grew corn, beans, melons, peppers, squash, and had extensive orchards. There was also a vast inter-tribal trading network, so goods from all over the continent might be obtained. When our people got sick, they called the nearest healer, and used herbal remedies, many of which are still in use today, including purges, and aspirin made from willow-bark. There are herbal medications which have anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, as well as fever reducers. (sure beat the heck out of leeches and bleeding patients into unconsciousness, which was the European practice) "Advanced emergency medical care"??? This did not even exist in the 16th century. We did the best we could, same as everyone else on the planet at that time. Our standards of living and hygiene were better than Europeans of the time. Our people bathed daily, and expected to live to old age. (The grandparents and elders were -and still are-highly esteemed and take a big role in assisting with rearing their grandchildren and great grandchildren) Hygiene included daily bathing, washing the body and hair with soap and then oiling it, and frequent sweat baths. We had a form of air conditioning, which could lower interior temperatures by 10 degrees. Some tribal nations had cities with pressurized plumbing. The elderly, the sick, the poor, and the orphaned were the responsibility of the entire community to care for.

They could, but they won't, for many reasons. The primary one is that they have the power, and the Native Peoples do not. Another reason is that there has been a lot of intermixing of groups of people over the years. If, for example, the US finally gave the Cherokee Nation back all its land, does that mean my husband, who is only 1/4 Cherokee, may stay on the land or does he have to go? And what of me? I have a very small percentage of Native blood, but the only tribal name I know for sure is Wampanoag.
What has been done to Natives and their culture is not right, but at the moment I don't see how it can be made right.

White Americans simply outnumbered the native Indians, and overwhelmed them in war. There are not too many historical cases where the victorious gave back land won in war. Right or wrong, this is the way it is.

might makes right, always has and always will. Nobody is where they started out originaly. Native Americans didn't start out here they came here and drove out somebody else. THe Comanches came form the north and decimated or killed out entire tribes or nations of people. Sure the Native Americans got a bum deal but you know 300 million Americans are never going to pack up and go back whre their 40 differnt ancestors came from. And what about people like me? My great grandmother was a Native American. Do I get to stay or do I have to go. If I go do I go to Ireland, England, Germany, the Netherlands or back to the Carolinas where Grandma's people were when Grandpa met her?

because they will be left with nothing and they have too much pride to actually admit that they were wrong for doing such and would rather stay so called rich by continuing to steal and get richer. (by the way I'm not of the white decent but also native Indian n black.)
