So my cousin is entitled to about 10 years of back SSI. Anyone got any idea how he can go about getting it?

Generally, if someone has been underpaid their SSI benefits, the Social Security Administration is pretty good about figuring this out.

The first step is to go in to SSA and speak with a claims representative explaining that he believes he is entitled to retroactive benefits. He should provide any evidence he has and ask if they will investigate the matter. He should also ask if they need him to gather anymore information to help them with their investigation.

In the event that they disagree with him or think he is entitled to a smaller amount, he can go to his local Legal Aid Society chapter or ask for assistance from a benefits advocate at an independent living center (ILC). Either Google "legal aid" with the name of his city or state, or search for an ILC at:

Good luck to him.

Who told you she was entitled to ten years back pay? If he was in fact due that money it would have been paid to her.
