The speed of communication. The removal of taboos in discussing problems. Nothing is any worse than it was, you just hear about faster and more often. These things used to be kept under wraps.

Please rephrase, or edit the question some more. I think I know what you are saying, but I am not sure.
I guess that I will take a shot at it.
Call it time, crime, and the media.
For one it used to be a safer time back in the day. Everyone trusted everyone.
Now, since crime has risen 6 fold, with rape, murder, kidnappings, and child molesters, the only people that you can trust with your children are you and your family members. Sometimes there are family members that you can't trust to be with.
The media. Every week you hear of a new molester, or a new kidnapping on TV. That's a is something that strikes fear in our hearts. We hope and pray that that horror that that family is going through we don't have to go through.
That is the best explanation that I can give.
