In theory yes. diesel will ignite under compression. If you just hit a puddle of diesel on a counter top it will probably not ignite but if yout put a diesel/air mixture in a cylinder and hit a tight fitting piston with a hammer it will probably detonate. This is the principle behind diesel engines.

In theory , yes you can ,But in practice No ! Diesel does not ignite by spark , it ignites by compression & heat . I don`t think you could generate enough heat to ignite it from the hammer blow ( the hammer striking the hard surface would cause the heat & compression ) but not enough to ignite the diesel .

The strike of the hammer would compress the diesel but wouldn`t generate the heat needed .

no, you can drop a match into diesel and the diesel will snuff it out. now what you have heard is that if you rapidly compress diesel it will ignite, which is true, but first it needs to be atomized and the energy level above a certian point for this to occur.

Uh, I think you can do that with gasoline only. You need lots of heat and pressure to ignite diesel. I coulc be wrong too.

Maybe. But gasoline would ignite a whole lot easier.

Yes, if it's on the ground it can cause a spark that will ignite it.
