Why did bush say, in 2003, "Mission Accomplished", "Major combat operations in Iraq are over"

Arkie-So you are then admitting that there was never a plan after the invasion and overthrow? A point Dems have been making for years! Also, why did he say major combat operations were over?

We caught Saddam, that was the mission. New mission - take out the Islamic radicals.

The reason the Bush made the statement was because he was asked to do so by General Tommy Franks. There were some members of the coalition who would not participate in combat but had said they would help once that phase was over. Franks requested that the president make the statement in order to increase coalition involvement.

Because then and now he is out of touch. My mini-schnauzer has a better plan for Iraq than this president. I trust him far more too. He recklessly took American into this god awful war. He did not have a clue then and he is even more clueless now. His theory is if something doesn't work...you just keep doing more of it on a bigger scale.
