Please only try to answer if you are trained in the construction of these. But what's the real difference between the two types of ceilings? Vaulted and Cathedral?

vaulted means -----take a normal 8' ceiling----if you go to 10' or 12'--made the same way it's called vaulted........cathedral is usually an 8' ceiling normal---but as you go upward from standard 8' --you go at an angle where the walls close inward from 8' on up to perhaps 16'---the difference is the floor may be 20' by 20'and the ceiling is 10' by 10' --thrusting upward but in a narrowing fashion at the 8' height on up to the ceiling.....or it could be at the 10' height level narrowing on upward......

Sloped, vaulted, and cathedral ceilings are different names for essentially the same ceiling configuration. These ceilings are very popular in newer homes and remodeled homes, and they certainly add dramatic visual interest to a room. But because there is little or no attic space separating inside and outside air, proper insulation is especially important.

Vaulted ceilings have a vertical portion along the wall that the ceiling attaches to. the ceiling goes up in 4 directions. Cathederial ceilings come directly to the walls then up to a center point. Like an up side down V

Believe it or not, both Bubba and Prop are right. There are variations, but a good builder will be able to converse with either description.
