Well, run a few virus scans with Norton and see if it can find and remove the virus (make sure you are up to date with all virus definitions). I suggest also going to Trend Micro and running HouseCall http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
It's found viruses on systems before that my anti-virus program missed.

If you've gone a year without a virus, you're doing good. Viruses are just a part of online life. Just be careful about where you surf, & what you download and click on, and be sure to always keep your anti-virus software up to date and do periodic scans.

It has a virus because you opened an attatchment that you should not have opened. Your Norton antivirus should be able to get rid of it. If not, take it in and get them to wipe your hard drive totally clean and reinstall your system software. Be more careful in the future.

NEVER open an attatchment even from a friend until you in person or by phone confirm that it is a safe attatchment.

Any PC can get a virus...anytime

You need to find the programs the PC is loading that is a virus by going into safe mode and looking for the offending files and delete them.

Getting a virus is not computer fault, but yours. You had to update your antivirus program ( set on automat ) .
My advise is not get in to internet with your PC, untill you find the problem. I have "N" too and it goes well.
Look in "Quarantine" and see if there is anything in there. Delete.
Then try with your best luck in System32 folder for a recent installed EXEC with no specification or unidentifieble properties.
Do same thing in Windows folder and Temp.
Go to "Search" an select most recent installed files or date, when problems came . Search , search, ..... .
I wish you the very best luck !

If all else fails, use System Restore and restore your computer to an earlier time before the virus was downloaded. I had a particularly nasty virus that, despite my great protection, downloaded itself wouldn't go away. This was how I got rid of it.

it is a trojan type of virus. They need to be removed manually. Note down the exact name of the virus, then do a google search with its name, you will find manual removal instructions, get one fro your antivirus company, copy the instructions and follow.

there is a fully functional trial version of a trojan remover program, give it a try

The second link details the steps required to follow the manual removal instructions in case you decide to remove it manually, but for that you have to get removal instructions first
