Is being happy something you arrive at or something you do every day?

By the way, I made six figures at 24 years old and was unhappy!

Definetely a journey, not a destination. Ever have the experience of really anticipating something and then after that some thing has come and gone you realize the best part of the experience was the anticipation?

Happiness as a destination assumes that once happy(you have arrived) no further work (or travel) is required, but any one knows this is not true. Life is work.

I think happiness is derived from reaching a series of destinations, in which there are many journeys along the way.

Example: reach a goal, set a new goal, reach that goal, and so on. The key to happiness in not necessarily financial gain, but life accomplishments.

Ever jump from a plane? Marched in a parade? Routinely volunteer at a Seniors Center? Reach out to people, and make a difference....

Happiness is neither a journey nor a destination. But there are endless opportunities for happiness along the way and those opportunities definitely present themselves every day. The key is recognizing them; lots of people end up looking past or through them as they focus on things that we've been indoctrinated to believe will bring us happiness.

Money, by the way, is only related to happiness up to a certain point. Individuals who earn above $10,000 a year a lot happier than those who earn below that amount. Above that there are diminishing returns. People earning $500,000 are no happier than those earning $50,000.

Neither. Happiness is not a journey as a journey implies an end. The result of any end is happiness. Happiness is not the destination or goal as what journey is there which is nothing but happiness.

To me Life is happiness. Since I was little my dad always told me that Life is a Journey not a Destination. I have lived by that for a very long time. Happiness is something you achieve not just get. You have to work to achieve it by doing things that make you happy, and by being who you want to be.

I think it's a journey; in a philosophy class I took last summer, we actually had this discussion. We listed the thing we thought we wanted most in life (examples: God, requited love, fame, wisdom, knowledge (different than wisdom:)) and then listed how we thought we'd get to those wants, which we called "ends." The ways to get to the "ends" were called "means." Most of us found that in the end, it was our "means" that really seemed to bring us joy in life. So, if your "means" are the journey, then yes, I'd definitely say that happiness is a journey, not a destination.

Happiness is not a journey or destination.
Happiness is when the conflict is not.
Whenever the mind is problematic happiness is absent.
Happiness is what we call peace of mind.
We are just having temporary happiness, means the mind is
temporarily peaceful, but when conflict begins because of thinking
we're back again to pain.
Life without conflict is arduous for a thinking mind, but it could be
discovered.
To understand life without conflict is to be observant at the
moment of conflict
Understanding is to face life or our conflict without judgment.

Happiness is both the journey of how you reach your own ideal and perception of what happiness means to you and the destination to happiness with the choices, decisions we make that reach us there. Simple and I live this reality and I am happy as happy can possibly be..,.,

Happiness is arrived at when one realizes that the journey is all there is. Be happy with wherever you are, because that's all there is. There is no destination, because if there was, then when you "arrive" there you find out that is just the next step in your never ending journey.

So just enjoy.

Hello. Let me address the issue of happiness. Your question would make one believe that happiness is a state of mind, but I assure it is not. It is not even a social level that we achieve in the midst of our greatest joy.

So, I bet you would like to know what happiness is. Happiness is state of one's perceived being, usually temporal in nature, deriving from the vernacular creation of one's mind. In other words, it is only a perceived state of existence, which is the farthest thing from being a social absolute, and it can never be applied universally. So if you are seeking a Utopia, then I recommend attempting to discover another existence beyond this one, for this world is the furthest thing from a Utopia.

A great philosopher once said "That a man is always a prey to his truths" and therefore "He is in bondage to those truths." I believe this to be true. As humans we create our own happiness and sadness, for without individual consent feelings of happiness and sadness would remain vernacular and without a host.

To sum up my thoughts I would recommend that if you choose to be happy, then "Make it so." I would also suggest that if you fail to discover that other realm where multiple Utopias exist, then make the best effort to exercise your individual will while you are here. This will allow your to create your happiness, without surrendering yourself to someone else's defintion of happiness. I wish you well!
