i got a 2005 z71 4x4 chevy avalanche. stock 265/70/17. would like to go up to 285/70/17... would i be able to do this without getting anything done otherwise... or would this cause me to rub? if so whats the best way to fit 285s on there with the least amount of money spent?

Try asking a tire shop. Usually they can tell you what the biggest tire you can get is without rubbing. I don't for see a problem with you doing that. But I would go to a tire shop like Sears and ask them.

would probably end up with a 285/65/17 or a 285/60/17 to keep the sidewall from being so tall. as long as there is at least 2 1/2 -
3 inches of clearence it shouldn't rub. sometimes its just trial and error. with tires money basically equals performance. cheap tire less performance or rougher ride. I always prefer goodyear, michelin, BF Goodrich or something similar.

I doubt those will fit. To run 32-11.50's, which is basically a 285/75, on my old chevy- i had to trim the front fenderwells with a torch.

If you stick to your standard rims they will fit. If you ever plan to replace the rims never change the back spacing ( distance from where the hub bolts to the back side of the wheel to the inside rim.

I have an 05 Silverado and just went thru this... the answer is they fit and they don't seem to affect the mileage or the speedometer setting...
