It has Windows 2000 and have not used the laptop for a couple of years now, and the laptop was given to me by my former employer.

No, I don't steal. My former employer went out of business, and told me to keep the laptop. I don't like to take things that aren't mine nor given to me.

Here are a few suggestions. Have you tried hitting I think it is either F7, F8 or F10 that you hit while booting into Windows and it should give you the option of starting safely with dos and all this other stuff. Choose start windows in safe mode and the administrator mode should become available at login. Then once inside windows go to the control panel in user accounts and change your password for the account you lost it for to another one.
