I heard biochemistry is the hardest science class and it is hard for 1st year med students. Then there is molecular biology major which is also important for pre-med. Which major would you choose and why between Biochemistry and molecular biology?

If you have the fortitude for biochemistry, understanding of the material will be far more relevant, compared to molecular. A typical upper-division molecular course and a genetics course are necessary, but overall the biochem major will give you a far firmer background that I think you'd be glad you have when you are in med school. Unless you want to be a genetic counselor or do gene therapy.

I second the above, major in something you find interesting. Many students at top universities majored outside of the sciences. You will get all the biology you need in medical school, and since you get a simplified view there for the sake of brevity you will not be missing out on much as compared to your fellow classmates. Biochem and molecular biology majors are almost the same thing, the only difference will be inorganic chemistry exposure for biochemistry but that's really it. If you like biology don't go to med school, go to grad school or do an MSTP. Molecular biology is popular among pre-meds because they mistakenly believe it will help them get into med school, but the ones that do take an MCAT class for the help, volunteered in another country or local clinic for a year or two, and did research in the sciences. I would think literature majors are on top of it for preparing to go to med school since you have to just to sit down, suck it up, and read the days away.

You'll take many more chemistry and physics classed in the biochem course which will prepare you well for your MCATs which is really important. So long as you have a high GPA it doesn't matter which major you choose. I would decide based on your interests and on what subjects you will need to be taught to pass your MCATs. Make sure either major covers all your bases.

Always pick the more difficult path. It is easier to step down than up.
