I was kicked out of a public library for listing items on E-bay. Is this legal?

I was asked to leave my local library earlier today because I was using the computer to sell items on e-bay. The last I knew the library was open to the public and certainly intended for use by upstanding tax paying citizens such as myself.

To make matters worse, it took about 20 minutes to transport all the items from my truck to the PC area of the library. I carried in 2 full hampers of clothing, 4 aluminum rims for a 1993 Firebird and an old desk – all which I intended to list / sell on E-bay. No sooner did I get 2 items of clothing pictured, description listed and auction posted when the librarian told me I could not sell items on E-bay from the library.

Aside form a rude tone; this librarian demanded I gather my belongings and leave. I asked for an explanation but the only answer I got was “you can’t sell items oh E-bay here”. So my question is – what did I do wrong? I’m a tax paying citizen entitled you use the public library and it’s PCs.

I dont believe you for one second. No one is that stupid as to drag crap into the library for the sake of running his or her own business at tax payer expense.

If you are serious and actually that stupid - The library is not your personal office for private profit making business. While some people will use a library for gathering information to use in business -they do not conduct their business there.

Why in the world would anyone with a computer at home, use a public library computer for business unless that business be illegal, a sham, a rip off. Like I said - you're either a troll or you are one of the most stupid people on the planet.

you have no right to put them in middle of a lawsuit incase you do something stupid.

If you turned out to be sum huge scammer who goes to hundreds of libraries a day to post up fake items on ebay, and then collecting the paypal... and then dissappearing into mexico or something... guess what

IP would trace back to the library...the computers would hafta be confiscated for evidence...the librarians+witnesses would hafta be questioned for leads...

Crooks do similar stuff all the time.
Why do you hafta put a Library in the middle of this when you have your own PC anyways? Its not fair to them to complain about it afterwards too... They give free computers for the public for means of education.. all they ask is that you just not do anything that could end up putting them in the middle of something they never intended to happen... and then you take for granted something they didnt hafta allow you to use in the first plane and you start complaining about it...

Well- first off, you shouldn't be dragging all that crap into the library. Take pictures (digital) and bring notes with you.

Second, you should look at the policy they have on internet use. If it doens't specifically say you can't go to ebay, complain to somebody in charge at the library.
