I can find this one - which is not exactly what you have in mind
After A While
After a while, you learn the subtle difference
Between holding a hand and chaining a soul,
And you learn that love doesn't mean leaning
And company doesn't mean security,
And you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts.
And presents aren't promises,
And you begin to accept your defeats
With the grace of God, not the grief of a child,
And you learn to build all your roads on today
Because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans,
And futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight
And after a while you learn
That even sunshine burns if you get too much.
So you plant your own garden and decorate your own soul,
Instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure ...
That you really are strong
And you really do have worth
And you learn and learn ...
And with every goodbye, you learn.

Thanks, this is a Beutiful Poem...
Poem: After A While
----
After a while...
You learn the subtle difference
Between holding a hand and chaining a soul
And you learn that love doesn't mean leaning.
And company doesn't mean security.
And you begin to learn that kisses aren't promises.
--
After a while...
You begin to accept your defeats
With your head up and your eyes open.
With the grace of a woman,
Not the grief of a child,
But the strength of a man.
--
After a while...
You learn to build all your roads on today
Because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans,
And futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight.
--
After a while...
You learn that even the sunshine burns if you get too much.
So you plant your own garden and decorate your own soul,
Instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.
--
After a while...
You learn that you really can endure,
That you really are strong, and you really do have worth.
And you learn and learn...
With every good-bye you learn

After a while you learn
the subtle difference between
holding a hand and chaining a soul
and you learn
that love doesn't mean leaning
and company doesn't always mean security.
And you begin to learn
that kisses aren't contracts
and presents aren't promises
and you begin to accept your defeats
with your head up and your eyes ahead
with the grace of woman,
not the grief of a child
and you learn
to build all your roads on today
because tomorrow's ground is
too uncertain for plans
and futures have a way of falling down
in mid-flight.
After a while you learn
that even sunshine burns
if you get too much
so you plant your own garden
and decorate your own soul
instead of waiting for someone
to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure
you really are strong
you really do have worth
and you learn
and you learn
with every goodbye, you learn...

This is a delightful poem and simply ripe for parody. I started thinking "If I were looking for a wife... with rhymes schemes leading to strife and knife and life ... Then I started thinking of a poem "If I were looking for a cat.." Unfortunately, my sense of humor packed its bags and took off to Florida for spring break. All I can add is my recollection of the first stanza of a country music song I wrote when I was about 21. The humor grew more bizarre as the man went on to describe his idea of the perfect woman (and what she would have to cope with) but I have no idea where I would find a copy. "If there's a man for every woman, and a girl for every man, the woman made for me must be livin' in Japan. I've searched the whole town over and came up with Betty Ann -- Guess I'd rather live alone for now." Smiles and thanks.
