where in the heck do you come up w/these questions. Pondlife? I have never and don't think I will ever look into a road grid to see what goes on down there. Very funny but still very odd.

No, but I remember when I was little and they used to drill holes in the pavement for gas ventilation (or something) and my grandma told me that they were used to communicate to people in the next street. Had me lay on the pavement shouting "hello" into those little holes for hours.
