Maybe I shouldn't answer because I'm not positive this would work, but if I had a sweatshirt with salad oil in it I'd try washing the area by hand with Dawn dishwashing liquid before washing it. Dawn is known to work on grease.

After hand-treating the area with Dawn I'd then wash it in hot water while the area was still wet.

If the shirt has already gone through the dryer there's a chance the stain was set by the heat, but maybe not.

If your sweatshirt is more cotton than synthetic fibres, it may be salvageable. Otherwise, forget about it.

The oil should have been pre-treated with a product that breaks up the oil molecules BEFORE being machine laundered. However, hindsight is always 20/20.

Try treating it now with a product like "Spray 'n Wash" or "Shout" or "Oxy-Clean" or "Whisk". Let it dry and re-wash with an ordinary load. By the way, none of these products are good for the environment or your skin.

Considering the high price (economically and environmentally) of thes pre-treatment laundry products, it might be time to make rags out of this shirt.

Soak the oil spots in Shout overnight. It works wonders! I got oil (like the kind for a vaporizer) on a brand new shirt, and washed it 3 times trying something different each time to get the stain out. And each time the spot was still there! Finally I got out the Shout (I don't know why I didn't do that first, but anyway...) and soaked the spot overnight, then washed it, and voila!! Oil spot gone!! Hope this works for you.

If you haven't put it through the dryer yet, pre-treat it with Dawn dishwashing liquid--it's great for oil-based stains--and wash it again. If you have put it through the dryer, try Joe Campanelli's Professional Formula Stain Remover Liquid. I buy it through qvc.com, but it's also available other places online. You may have to use it several times to get rid of the stain, but I've never had it fail.

Make a paste of Dawn and baking soda. Apply it to the stain & let it sit overnight. Wash as usual.

DAWN dish detergent the orignal kind. They use it to clean the wildlife after a huge oil spill, and my mom uses it on removing oil stains from her clothes. Also she uses lestoil to remove grease and oil for my dad's work clothes. He is a mechanic. It works well so far.

SHORT AND SWEET! PUT BABY POWDER AND LET IT SINK IN, THEN TAP THE POWDER OFF. AFTER YOU MAY WASH.

NEVER PUT WATER ON A STAIN. INSTEAD TAKE IT TO THE DRYCLEANERS IF YOU ARE NOT SURE. IF YOU PUT WATER, YOU ONLY Spread the stain more or you disolve the stain consistancy in order for a professional to clean.
