I have heard the author suggested that the seventh might not be the last one. And even if it is, she will surely be offered zillions to do another one in the future.

Rumor has it that Rowling has offered her UK publisher, Bloomsbury, to keep writing Harry Potter as an adult, but that Bloomsbury turned her down because she has a hard time with deadlines. I don't know if that's true, but it is plausible.

Her books are between 2 and 3 years apart. She says on her website that she is working hard on book 7. A July 7, 2007 release date has been speculated because it would be 7-7-07 for the 7th book and a Satuday in July (when her last 3 books have come out). However the fly in the ointment is the movie Harry Potter and the Order of the PHoenix. Warner Bros. has already announced a 7-15-07 premire date. That puts it a bit too close to the 7-7-07 guess. I hope as soon as possible!

I've heard that she is having a real hard time finishing the 7th book, and would like to never write another book again, but feels she owes it to the fans so she has to finish it.

So I'd say, no, there will never be another Harry Potter book after the series ends with the death of Voldemort. But on the other hand, there are so many loose ends to tie up that Rowling may decide to finish it in two books instead of one. I can't see how she'd finish it all off in less than about 800 pages, myself.

I recall reading that she was going to write four more books after the 4th book.

I just looked it up, it said...

Harry Potter 7 has been announced! J. K. Rowling's seventh and FINAL BOOK of her blockbuster Harry Potter series is scheduled for release at 12:01am on July 21, 2007.

"Rowling confirmed that there isn't a university after Hogwarts and further Harry Potter books.
Q: Do you think that you will write about Harry after he graduates from Hogwarts? Isn't there a University of Wizardry?
A: There's no University for Wizards. At the moment I'm only planning to write seven Harry Potter books. I won't say "never," but I have no plans to write an eighth book. "

Never say never... I sure hope she does!

No. she's already said this is the last one. She MIGHT (that's a big might) write an encyclopedia type book about the Harry Potter worl with info on almost every character there is.

No. In "The Authorized Biography of J.K. Rowling", Rowling admits in an interview that she will not return to Harry after the 7th book. To paraphrase, she said, "It will grieve me to leave Harry, but I won't stop writing! I'll write until I lose my marbles...even though I'll miss Harry."

No, but she might do a sort of "encyclopedia" about harry potter, and she has plans to write other series.
